One year until the next elections for the US House of Representatives.  Are you ready to run the race with Col. West?

Seabiscuit was not favored to win, he was a long shot. He had no money, and little backing.  War Admiral had all the money and backing imaginable, but he was no warhorse.

Yet, training and bravery and heart brought Seabiscuit to the winner circle in his once year, one chance.

View this classic 1938 horse race and be reminded of what makes a winner.

Greetings to all and I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. I pray that as you come together as families you are in good health and spirit. Regardless of all that is occurring in our Country, we still have many blessings for which we all should give thanks.
As I sit here today and prepare for tomorrow my thoughts hearken back to the times when I was not able to be with my family. I think of those days when my family were my Brother and Sister Warriors who were also away from their families. I remember how we all would have our meal and comfort each other with stories, jokes, and the bonds of camaraderie.
Today I was appalled to learn of three of my fellow Warriors who will not enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving. Three US Navy SEALS now stand charged and preparing for a courts-martial because of giving an islamic terrorist a swollen lip.
This comes on the heels of  Army Chief of Staff Gen Casey respond to the islamic jihadist attack at Ft Hood by being more concerned about “diversity becoming a casualty”. Having Secretary of Defense Gates reply when asked if Ft Hood was a terrorist attack, “I am not willing to go there”. And most egregious, having US Attorney General Eric Holder express his intent to convey our Constitutional rights and grant civilian court proceedings to five 9-11 conspirators. His reasoning for doing so?
Holder wants to evidence to the world how just and fair our judicial system is. My retort, our judicial system is fine, as it is intended for Americans.
It is very clear that there are three types of people; sheep, wolves, and guard dogs.
Tomorrow I shall give thanks, thanks to the “Guard Dogs”. I will honor and ask God to continue to bless those who stand on Freedom’s rampart providing us that hedge of protection. I give thanks to those, who in the face of being led by sheep, remain undeterred in executing their mission, safeguarding the flock from the wolves.
I give thanks to the Guard Dogs who are deployed in Afghanistan and have been waiting for a strategic vision from a Commander-in-Chief, clothed in sheep’s wool.
I give thanks to the three Guard Dogs who gave the terrorist who planned the killing, dragging, burning, and hanging of the bodies of four Americans a “fat lip”.
Attorney General Holder once stated that, “American is a Nation of cowards”. No Sir, you are wrong, America is a Nation that produces the finest pedigree of protectors. Unfortunately, someone started breeding sheep and they have risen to positions of leadership. I would even understand if there were a few Rams.
On Thanksgiving remember and honor the Guard Dogs, not the sheep, they are the ones who maintain the secure perimeter around us. They are the ones who when they lose a comrade to the wolves mourn but remain vigilant and resolute in their dedication.
They are the ones who enable us to live in the “Land of the Free” because this is and always shall be the “Home of the Brave”.

Happy Thanksgiving….
Steadfast and Loyal
Allen

Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Retired)

“Fakes, Phonies, and Frauds”

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

Greek Philosopher, Plato 429-347 BC

Greetings fellow South Florida riders, South Floridians, and Americans, here we are for another monthly installment of our Wheels on the Road (WOTR) political assessment. As this issue hits I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Hanukkah, and Merry Christmas……sorry, I am a traditional Southern fella that does not get this “Holiday” stuff.

Last month I discussed our being one year away from the most critical mid-term elections our Nation may ever know. We defined the difference between conservative and post-modern liberal political ideologies. In this past month we saw two very interesting Gubernatorial elections, well some of us missed them as WH Spokesman Robert Gibbs said the President was watching basketball. In case he still does not know the Republicans won in New Jersey and Virginia.

We are about to close out what has been an incredibly tumultuous year, the first under Emperor Obama…..townhall in China, give me a break!

I truly believe that it is necessary to consider Plato’s timeless quote and ponder, how does it apply to the elections of 2010?

Webster defines the word charlatan as “a fraud, quack, impostor”.

In this past year we have witnessed several instances of individuals that have perpetrated fraud against the American people. And our Country is plagued with charlatans.

We are all quite familiar with the Bernie Madoff case which devastated many people here in South Florida, quite a few in Florida Congressional district 22. So many people placed their trust in what we now know was an elaborate “ponzi scheme”. The life savings of countless individuals was lost.

Just recently we have experienced another such case in the Ft Lauderdale area with a local lawyer named Scott Rothstein. The dollar amounts are not in the same strata as Madoff, only $1Billion, but that is still a pretty substantial number. One would think that we would be more attuned after the realization of what Madoff had executed.

But on an even greater scale we see the future and legacy of our Republic being stolen away by those who truly are our inferiors, impostors.

We have a Secretary of the Treasury, head of the Internal Revenue Service, who cheated on his own taxes. We have Congressman Charlie Rangel, who is the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, keeper of our 67,000 page tax code. It has come to our attention that Congressman Rangel has also cheated against the document for which he is charged to keep. How is it that these individuals who have knowingly committed acts of fraud are in positions to govern us?

This year we have learned that we have members of Congress who have admitted that they do not read the legislation presented. I cannot consider this in any other term than being negligent in executing their duties, indeed committing fraud against those whom they should be representing.

I am sure there are multitudes of examples that we all can bring to mind from local to the federal levels of government. Former Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson recently  received a 13 year prison sentence for his corruption while serving in office; just another example of a charlatan.

I will not speak of our current President because the examples are too numerous to count. What I will speak of is the fact that leaders make a decision; they don’t vote “present”. However, as Benjamin Franklin stated, “sometimes you get the government you want, other times you get the government you deserve”.

How is it that over the course of the years our Great Republic has ended up being governed by lesser men, and women? Nancy Pelosi and my Congressional opponent Ron Klein are prime examples.

There is a simple answer; America has forgotten what leadership is.

As this year ends and we head into the election cycle of 2010 we must once again remember what comprises leadership. The individuals who now sit in key positions in our Country would have never been able to set us on course233 years ago to establish this “more perfect union” the United States of America.

Having spent 22 years in active duty service I have had the distinct honor to serve with an array of incredible men and women. I would like to share with you what I have been taught leadership to be.

Leadership has five basic components; the first is courage, not just physical courage but also moral courage to stand, sometimes alone, in order to do that which is right. It is about having a unique quality that in times of a trying crisis steps forth and exhibits itself in actions that are selfless and display uncommon virtue, valor, and resolve.

The second component is competence which is an ability to anticipate a problem, analyze viable solutions, and execute a decision. It is truly a talent that is necessary as America faces some of the most pressing issues in our economy, national security, energy independence, and illegal immigration. Competence knows no partisan agenda but seeks that which is best for those whom a leader is called to lead.

The third component is conviction which relates to one having a strong belief. What we need now more than ever are men and women who have a strong belief in America and its Constitution. America is a Republic and what is a fundamental principle of a Republic is adherence to Rule of Law….and that is our Constitution.

A conviction in America would have precluded the passing of the insidious healthcare legislation last week, in the wee hours.

The fourth component is commitment. In the military we all take an oath to our Constitution, to support and defend it, against all enemies foreign and domestic. We have a bond to our Brother and Sister Warriors. America now needs leaders who are committed to the American people, not their own self-interest and certainly not special interest, foreign or domestic.

Finally, leadership is about character, and for me that is defined by “doing what is right when no one is watching”. Far too many of those who are inferior to us have risen to positions of governance, only to make deals and decisions in hiding.

If our Country is to survive for another 233 years we must regain an ability to assess leadership. And in the coming year there will be many parading before us for support to gain that special honor to govern….yours truly is one of them.

Therefore, as 2009 ends and we head to 2010 we must become engaged in politics. Judge any of us with the hardest of scrutiny and ask the tough questions. Remember that leadership is not about having a nice image or giving pretty prepared speeches.

Leadership is about courage, competence, conviction, commitment, and character. Let us not allow the maxim of Plato to again define our Country. Let us no longer be led by fakes, phonies, and frauds.

Steadfast and Loyal!

“Tragedy at Ft Hood”

“Tragedy at Ft Hood”

Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Ret)

This past Thursday 13 American Soldiers were killed and another 30 wounded at a horrific mass shooting at US Army installation, Ft Hood Texas. As I watched in horror and then anger I recalled my two years of final service in the Army as a Battalion Commander at Ft Hood, 2002-2004.

My wife and two daughters were stunned at the incident having lived on the post in family housing.

A military installation, whether it is Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, or Coast Guard, is supposed to be a safe sanctuary for our Warriors and their families. It is intended to provide a home whereby our “Band of Brothers and Sisters” can find solace and bond beyond just the foxhole but as family units.

A military installation is supposed to be a place where our Warriors train for war, to serve and protect our Nation.

On Thursday, 5 November 2009 Ft Hood became a part of the battlefield in the war against Islamic totalitarianism and state sponsored terrorism.

There may be those who feel threatened by my words and would even recommend they not be uttered. To those individuals I say step aside because now is not the time for cowardice. Our Country has become so paralyzed by political correctness that we have allowed a vile and determined enemy to breach what should be the safest place in America, an Army post.

We have become so politically correct that our media is more concerned about the stress of the shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The misplaced benevolence intending to portray him as a victim is despicable. The fact that there are some who have now created an entire new classification called; “pre-virtual vicarious Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)” is unconscionable.

This is not a “man caused disaster”. It is what it is, an Islamic jihadist attack.

We have seen this before in 2003 when a SGT Hasan of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) threw hand grenades and opened fire into his Commanding Officer’s tent in Kuwait. We have seen the foiled attempt of Albanian Muslims who sought to attack Ft Dix, NJ. Recently we saw a young convert to Islam named Carlos Bledsoe travel to Yemen, receive terrorist training, and return to gun down two US Soldiers at a Little Rock, Arkansas Army recruiting station. We thwarted another Islamic terrorist plot in North Carolina which had US Marine Corps Base, Quantico as a target.

What have we done with all these prevalent trends? Nothing.

What we see are recalcitrant leaders who are refusing to confront the issue, Islamic terrorist infiltration into America, and possibly further into our Armed Services. Instead we have a multiculturalism and diversity syndrome on steroids.

Major Hasan should have never been transferred to Ft Hood, matter of fact he should have been Chaptered from the Army. His previous statements, poor evaluation reports, and the fact that the FBI had him under investigation for jihadist website posting should have been proof positive.

However, what we have is a typical liberal approach to find a victim, not the 13 and 30 Soldiers and Civilian, but rather the poor shooter. A shooter who we are told was a great American, who loved the Army and serving his Nation and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) stating that his actions had nothing to do with religious belief.

We know that Major Hasan deliberately planned this episode; he did give away his possessions. He stood atop a table in the confined space of the Soldier Readiness Center shouting “Allahu Akhbar”, same chant as the 9-11 terrorists and those we fight against overseas in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of operation.

No one in leadership seems willing to sound the alarm for the American people; they are therefore complicit in any future attacks. Our Congress should suspend the insidious action to vote on a preposterous and unconstitutional healthcare bill and resolve the issue of “protecting the American people”.

The recent incidents in Dearborn Michigan, Boston Massachusetts, Dallas Texas, and Chicago Illinois should bear witness to the fact that we have an Islamic terrorism issue in America. And don’t have CAIR call me and try to issue a vanilla press statement; they are an illegitimate terrorist associated organization which should be disbanded.

We have Saudi Arabia funding close to 80% of the mosques in the United States, one right here in South Florida, Pompano Beach. Are we building churches and synagogues in Saudi Arabia? Are “Kaffirs” and “Infidels” allowed travel to Mecca?

So much for peaceful coexistence.

Saudi Arabia is sponsoring radical Imams who enter into our prisons and convert young men into a virulent Wahabbist ideology….one resulting in four individuals wanting to destroy synagogues in New York with plastic explosives. Thank God the explosives were dummy. They are sponsoring textbooks which present Islamic centric revisionist history in our schools.

We must recognize that there is an urgent need to separate the theo-political radical Islamic ideology out of our American society. We must begin to demand surveillance of suspected Imams and mosques that are spreading hate and preaching the overthrow of our Constitutional Republic……that speech is not protected under First Amendment, it is sedition and if done by an American treason.

There should not be some 30 Islamic terrorist training camps in America that has nothing to do with First Amendment, Freedom of Religion. The Saudis are not our friends and any American political figure who believes such is delusional.

When tolerance becomes a one way street it certainly leads to cultural suicide. We are on that street. Liberals cannot be trusted to defend our Republic, because their sympathies obviously lie with their perceived victim, Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

I make no apologies for these words, and anyone angered by them, please, go to Ft Hood and look into the eyes of the real victims. The tragedy at Ft Hood Texas did not have to happen. Consider now the feelings of those there and on every military installation in the world. Consider the feelings of the Warriors deployed into combat zones who now are concerned that their loved ones at home are in a combat zone.

Ft Hood suffered an Islamic jihadist attack, stop the denial, and realize a simple point.

The reality of your enemy must become your own.

Steadfast and Loyal,

Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Ret)
